Evaluations

The SRLC has recently expanded our evaluation team.  We have five licensed psychologists who perform psychoeducational evaluations.  In addition, we have three speech/language pathologists, Sharon Doss PhD. , Susan Weber and Jamie Putnam M.Ed.CCC/SLP  who  administer speech, language and literacy evaluations for four and five year olds.  Children from all over Texas are evaluated at the Center.

History:
The Scottish Rite Learning Center of Austin, Inc., opened in 1989. The Center was established to provide dyslexia tutoring for children in grades 1-5. The Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas developed a videotape program that was used successfully at the Learning Center for the first 12 years.

In 2001, the Learning Center decided to broaden its focus and not only tutor children, but also provide area educators with the training required to become Certified Academic Language Therapists through the Academic Language Therapy Association. These individuals have completed rigorous requirements, including passing a national exam. This is an exciting step for Austin and the surrounding area. Because of this new venture, the videotape series was discontinued, and the students accepted at the Learning Center work directly with educators who are seeking Academic Language Therapy certification. Students receive the same high quality instruction that parents and area educators have associated with the Learning Center.

Our Mission:
The Scottish Rite Learning Center of Austin, Inc., founded in 1989, provides dyslexic individuals with a proven research-based, multisensory approach for learning the basic language skills of reading, writing, and spelling, through the ongoing charitable commitment of the Scottish Rite Masons. Scottish Rite Learning Center's efforts are also concentrated on maintaining a nationally accredited teacher-training institute as well as a resource for educators, parental consultation, and adult education.

Future Plans
A new, state-of-the-art Learning Center will be built at the former Robert Mueller airport location at 51st Street and I-35 in Austin. This new facility will provide ample space for student tutoring, teacher education, parent seminars, and parking. Distance learning has been included in the plans so that more children and adults can be reached.

In order to complete this project and continue our mission to serve the students and educators in Central Texas, your generous support is needed. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the building fund and/or include a bequest in your will. For more information, visit our page on the Capital Campaign.

The First Step:
Call us at (512) 472-1231, and ask for information on our programs and dyslexia. We are located at 12871 Research Blvd. Austin , TX 78750.

Why the Scottish Rite Cares and Is Involved:
The Masonic Order has been involved in quality education in Texas since the Battle of San Jacinto and the early growth of the Republic. For more than 150 years, Texas Masons have joined with others around the world to institute and support charitable programs.

The Scottish Rite Learning Center of Austin, Inc. takes great pride in continuing this tradition of service by bringing quality education to those Austin area children who struggle to free themselves from the effects of dyslexia.

How You Can Help:
The purpose of the Scottish Rite Learning Center of Austin, Inc. is to provide effective instruction programs to Austin area children and teacher training to Central Texas educators. Many parents cannot afford expensive private tutoring and turn to the Scottish Rite for help.

Your support of this tax-exempt, charitable corporation is appreciated - and essential in extending our outreach to all the children of Austin.

Each donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law and fully directed to the Learning Center and its programs.

Your help in spreading the good word about the Learning Center's services - offered at no cost to the child's family - also is vital to the continued success of the dyslexia program.

We treasure both your generosity and your concern.
