While working at the Briarwood School in Houston for children with special needs, Gladden began her training in certified academic language therapy with leading dyslexia experts Aylette Cox and Lucius Waites at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas. She later completed her training at Neuhaus Education Center in Houston. For the past 18 years, Gladden has used the tools she acquired to educate children, as well as adults, through her private practice in Austin and by conducting workshops and consultations at local and private schools. Along with Ann Root, she co-authored a special needs children’s book entitled “Charlie's Challenge,” for which she traveled around the country with Barnes and Noble on a book tour. During her career, Gladden has served as a founding board member for the Austin Orton Dyslexia Society, as well as a board member for the Orton Dyslexia Society of Houston. She has also been involved in several organizations that support children in the Austin community and has held various positions with the charitable organizations, including chair for the Focus on Youth for St. David's Hospital Foundation; public relations chair for the Settlement Club; public relations chair and education chair for the Helping Hand Society; board member for the Children's Hospital of Austin; and board member for the Elizabeth Ann Seton Board. Gladden grew up in Victoria, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Elementary Education/Reading Concentration. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening and antique shopping. Return to the top of the page. |
